Gabriel Serra is an Academy Award nominated Director and Cinematographer. Originally from Nicaragua, Gabriel is now based in Mexico City but spreads his time working in the US, Mexico, and across Central America.
His 2013 documentary short, LA PARKA (THE REAPER), which he wrote and directed, was selected for 63 Festivals, and won different prizes in over 30 of these, including being nominated for an Oscar in the 2015 Academy Awards.
He has also directed a number of documentary features and shorts (including EL MITO BLANCO, LA VOZ DE ESPERANZA, LA NINÃ Y LA ESTRELLA, and LILIANA; a recurring motif among these films and the larger body of his work tends to document the lives, experiences, and culture of people living in Mexico and Central America.
He has also worked as a Cinematographer both in the premium documentary space and narrative features. Some of his work in this role includes EL TEMA (a docuseries about the climate crisis in Mexico), NIÑA FURIA (an HBO fiction series about Nicaraguans exiles in Costa Rica), and the award-winning documentary feature, RUSH HOUR.
Most recently, he wrote and directed the Amazon Prime docuseries, GOOD RIVALS, which chronicles the history & rivalry between the United States and Mexico national soccer teams.
